I’m Shawn Bramlett. This Port Aransas beach guide is my seasonal call for people coming to watch or fly — a day kite festival or a night LED show.

Port Aransas is my home beach. I have been a Port Aransas beach goer for about forty years — on this sand, on Mustang Island, watching the Gulf and learning how the weather here actually behaves. This is not a weekend I found on a map. It is the beach I know.

Kites came with time on the lines. For about twenty years I have been a veteran kite flyer on this coast. You learn the wind here the slow way: sea breeze, evening lull, the feel of a line when the Gulf sky is about to change. A day fly on this island still means color over the sand — families, a festival Saturday, kites in the sun. Fly It Port A hosts those daytime kite festivals. Southern Lights LED Kites is the night LED crew. I do not own the day fest. I lead the lights after dark.

That is why night kites matter in Port Aransas. After sunset the beach is a different place. LED kites turn a night fly into something you can read from the sand — shapes in the dark over Port Aransas beach markers 13–15, wind allowing. People come to fly. People come only to see the night fly. Either way they are standing on Mustang Island after dark, and they need a clear stretch of beach.

I wrote this Port Aransas beach guide for those trips. A day fly on this beach is sun, sand, and a festival crowd. A night fly is LED kites after dark at markers 13–15, wind allowing. You want a real room on Mustang Island so you can walk the town, eat here, and still be on the island when the lights go up. A mainland bed means a ferry or a drive when you should already be on the sand.

Day flies and night flies both happen on the Port Aransas beach. Staying on Access Road 1-A keeps the rig in the same town as the markers, the food, and a cart if you want one. For people who already live out of the rig, that is the kite-fly weekend I want: hook up, walk or roll toward the sand, and still be here after dark.

Shaved Ice Co is my Fall 2026 shaved-ice review. After a hot afternoon of day flying, a kite festival Saturday, or plain Port Aransas beach time, this is the stop I name before a night fly. Mustang Island in season will cook you. Ice is not a luxury. It is the pause between the sand and markers 13–15.
